A comprehensive eye exam requires roughly one to one and a half hours for thorough medical evaluation, visual acuity exam, and eye health screening. Patients should bring a complete list of current symptoms and/or concerns, medical history, and a list of current medications and supplements taken. If a patient also wishes to be evaluated for contact lenses during your appointment, please tell your scheduling receptionist and allow for an additional 30 minutes for the comprehensive eye exam and contact lens evaluation.
The American Optometric Association recommends healthy adults have at least one eye exam each year unless otherwise instructed by an optometrist. During an annual eye exam, an optometrist evaluates eye health and function and screens for early signs of any eye diseases or progressive conditions.
